OzBargain Zeitgeist 2015 : Top stores, deals and comments
neil on 25/01/2016 at 12:21 pm, filed under OzBargainIt’s a remarkable feat to have a retailer that is #1 in both front page deals and overall deals posted to suddenly go into voluntary administration but that’s just what happened to Dick Smith. Since we started collecting stats, Dick Smith has either been #1 or #2 in the number of deals posted. As of January 25, only 21 deals have been posted putting the retailer on track for 417 deals for 2016, a drop of around 70%. Watch this space.
We have 4 newcomers to the top 25 with IWantThatFlight, Groupon, Telstra and DeliveryHero making the list. Most flight deals seem to do well on OzBargain so no surprise to see the cheap flight finding website IWTF on the list.
DeliveryHero has been offering high value coupons allowing OzBargainers to get cheap delivered meals. The above chart shows the DH deals between March and May where the discount offered somewhat correlates to the votes received.
Groupon offered a number of discounted gift card deals for stores such as Big W and Masters. Fortunately, they didn’t offer any Dick Smith gift cards.
Last year we noted the falling currency knocked Amazon UK off the list. With the falling US dollar, Amazon US deals have now dropped 6 places. With no improvement in currency forecasted, the number of Amazon deals will likely continue to drop.

Where did the popular retailers come from?
Australian stores slightly rebounded with a 2% increase. China including Hong Kong increased yet again while the US & UK dropped. The UAE made its debut on the list with Emirates & Etihad both offering flight deals.
