One of my first Christmas presents last year was from Deeps at Microsoft Australia, whom I’ve worked together to create the IE8 Web Slice for OzBargain. It’s the Microsoft Explorer Mouse with BlueTrack technology that works on “any service surface”.

- Easy Recharging
- Reliable Wireless on the go
- Sophisticated design and comfort
- Go anywhere
- Retail for ~$99 from MSY
And guess what — it is still sitting on my desk, started to collecting dust. A wireless mouse is not that useful to me unfortunately as I am mostly desk-bound. There’s always a designated area on my desk that’s flat so the all-surface BlueTrack technology is an overkill to me as well.
So instead of becoming obsolete on my desk, I am now giving away this Microsoft Explorer Mouse. Guess the answer correctly, and this high-tech wireless mouse will be yours!
Rules
To enter, leave a comment with your answer in this blog post — and make sure you use a correct email address just in case you guessed the right answer and needs to be notified about the prize). So what’s the question?
Since I got this gift because of Microsoft Internet Explorer, I would like you to guess the exact percentage of Internet Explorer visits on OzBargain from 1st of January to next Sunday, 25th of January 2009. I will then announce the winner probably the following Monday or Tuesday.
I have no idea about the exact answer either as there might be a huge influx of IE users this week due to the release of Windows 7 beta. But here are some hints, from the stats collected over the last 30 days from Google Analytics:
- There are 10% more Firefox visitors than Internet Explorer visitors.
- Safari visitors are 1/10 of the Firefox visitors.
- 4.43% of OzBargain visitors use Google Chrome.
So your answer would be in the form of xx.yy%. Whoever guessed the closest value wins. Let the guessing game start!

40.27%
39.56%
I also think a prize should be given to the first person who gives an answer that couldn’t be right (ie anything higher than 40.27%). :)
Hey. Maybe there are some mis-communications here, but I think someone’s mathematics is incorrect. When I said FF is 10% more than IE, it means if IE is 20%, FF is at 22% — not 30%!
Also do note that there are more browsers than FF, IE, Safari and Chrome. Opera anyone? Konqueror? We even have PlayStation 3 visitors…
Finally. One submission per user please, and I am only taking answers from Australian users because I won’t post this overseas.

@HueyCobra — thanks! Fixed now.
Hey guys! Do not under-estimate the power of the dark side — there are more IE users than that! By the way I LOVE Internet Explorer users. IE might have 10% less visitors than Firefox, but they generate 2.2x more AdSense income for me, according to Google Analytics :) More IE users please!

Judging from the entries so far, I have to say that some of you are **very close**. However, it will be measured against the value NEXT SUNDAY so it’s hard to say for now.
I’ll try 42.07%

I’m gonna go with 44.61%
I’ve been itching to say this to some ppl and their guesses.
From the Hints!!! FIrefox is +10% IE users, Mac is 1/10 Fireforx and 4.43 is google. SOOO!!!! Basic maths says anyone guessing above 44% is instantly wrong.
Please I beg you read the hints given and use the brain god has given you.
If you still think your right and im wrong, get the calculator out or Im happy to explain
43.18%
kingwang, history is no predictor of future events, so I wouldn’t say anything above 44% is instantly wrong – it’s only instantly wrong based on past events ;)
I’m going for 43.89%
Sorry Kingwang26 … it’s based on this month’s values … the figures that Scott gave were for the last 30 days, so could well be over 44% and not be “instantly wrong”, or under … it’s just a guess :-)
For the record … my guess is ….. 45.75%
