Catch of the Day is having a Catch-A-Thon today!!
Heaven for Bargain Shoppers — We have compiled some of our past CRAZY Catches (33 to be exact) and put them all, up for the taking for 24 HOURS ONLY.
They have listed all their past deals on their other website, Daily Deals. It’s all on the front-pages now for all to browse through, and there are lots of bargains and great gift ideas there.
For example:
- Teac DV3120 DVD Player — $19.80
- Superfly Pocket Helicopter — $29.80
- Authentic VB Portable BBQ — $49.40
Their Catch-A-Thon is running for 24 hours only, that means the price won’t be there after 11:59am tomorrow (19 Dec 2006).
Update: It has now been extended to Wednesday with more items.

I don’t think it’s all their past deals, just 33 of them.
Also, they aren’t all at the same price as when on COTD. The breakfast/kettle bundle was 39.99 when on COTD and is 49.99 on the Catch-A-Thon on the Daily Deals site.
Alright… Thanks for the correction. It shows that obviously I have not yet bought anything from COTD :)
Hey Scott
Have you been threatened with legal action before? I have… just today…. very interesting
Hey
Tried to reply to your email but got an error message?
Another COTD Catch a Thon starts this Monday 16-April-2007
Form what Ive heard its really big. So don’t miss out
Cheers … http://www.cotd.com.au
Geez Maxine, it sounds like you work for the company. And you know what? Lots of people keep COMPLAINING about COTD…. myself included. Buyer beware! See http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=596844 for essential background reading.
Hey Gav — not sure who Maxine worked for (although I do get an email about the latest Catch A Thon at around the same time as well), but regarding to CotD on Whirlpool…
When you have a thread that lasts 30+ pages and 600+ posts, it would be very hard not to find a negative review. Moreover, Whirlpool did not get a nick name of “Whingepool” for nothing.
But then again I have not bought anything from CotD yet though…
Hi Scott. I was speaking from experience in dealing with CoTD (or trying to – they never responded to my emails). To summarise, many of those 600 posts complain about CoTD – being sent damaged goods, being sent the wrong goods, being sent poor quality items, and poor customer service. A few say they got what they expected, which wasn’t much.
In my experience I was sent the wrong items, then never had any emails replied to. The value of the goods was too low to bother chasing up. I personally think this site would be MUCH better off for dropping all ties with CoTD and affiliated businesses like Deals Direct. Their service, reputation, and quality of goods are simply not up to scratch! All IMHO of course.
Gav — sorry to hear about your bad experience with CotD. I am about to get the store review code onto OzBargain.com.au so that users can cast their own review on these online stores. However, I also felt hesitated beceause I certainly do not wish to be the next Whingepool where people only come and post bad reviews on these Australian retailers, nor do I wish to see it become the “external support forum” (like the Deals Direct thread on WP) where there is no short of arguments…
As of your concern to this site and our “affiliating business” — let me say that I pretty much post these deals myself without Deals Direct or CotD asking for them. I added CotD to the front-page sidebar pretty much right after I discovered CotD. I don’t get any commission on CotD. As of Deals Direct (and OO.com.au) who actually affiliation sales, I would also recommend them to go to MoneyBackCo so they can get that commission as moneyback (that’s why their banner is always visible).
Now, whether leaving them there or removing them would be “much better” is really subjective. However, if you have a favourite store that you would like me to visit, please contact me so I can take a look and write about them here, so that other visitors can also benefit.
Cheers,
Scott
I’ve dealt with DealsDirect/CotD a few times in the past 6 months and I haven’t had a problem yet… I got 1 item Dead on Arrival, emailed them and they arranged an exchange within 24 hours. Reply Paid the DoA item so it didn’t cost me any extra…
And no, I’m not affiliated with the companies concerned, I’m just a happy customer.
Thanks Scott, if I find a site I think should be on here, I’ll let you know. You’re right that having the link there is subjective. The question you have to ask yourself is how you feel about linking to (and implicitly supporting) a website whose reputation is poor and where you get nothing in return. I also notice you don’t give shipping prices for CotD but do for Zazz which puts CotD in a better looking situation (especially given the prices they charge). I love your sites, and personally feel they’ll be better for not affiliating in any way with CotD/DD until they can prove themselves to be better than they have now. Even scuba got a DOA item after dealing with them a few times in 6 months – in today’s age getting a DOA item from any company should be rare.
