26 inch LCD TV under AUD$900

26" LCD TV from OO.com.au Afternoon at 5:38pm: Received an email from OO.com.au, titled LCD TV 66cm Crazy $999. Gee. When was the LCD TV becoming so cheap? A few years ago it won’t even buy you a 26″ flatscreen CRT at this price. Although not strictly high definition (only at 1280×768 so it will not do 1080i), the feature is surely impressive. The brand is little known “Highlander”, and it takes D-Sub, DVI and S-Video inputs. Surely looks way better than my current television.

Highlander LCD TV from DealsDirect Afternoon at 6:42pm: Received an email from DealsDirect, featuring their “Deal of the Month”: New 26″ Widescreen LCD TV $899 - Save 55%. Hey! This LCD TV looks familiar — actually it is exactly the same Highlander 66cm unit as the one that was on special at OO.com.au! Except it is whole 100 dollars cheaper. A bargain that is now an even better deal.

So just to reconfirm that they are actually the same unit, I went back to the OO.com.au product page, only to discover that they have slashed the price further to $889, making it $10 cheaper than their fierce competitor (and $4 cheaper for delivery as well). This is insane — an hour and half ago it was selling for $999 and now $889. Even all the images have changed to reflect the new reduced price.

Did I smell a bit of fire between these two Australian on-line bargain stores? But who cares — it is the customers who win at the end :)

By the way, I have previously shopped at OO.com.au (bought a fully-reclinable baby stroller for someone else), and my experience has been very good. Submit my order late at night, got confirmation straight away, got delivery notification on the following day, and the product was delivered the day after. And at a price that betters many dodgy shops on eBay. Highly recommended.

Thanks for the info. But the question is, how is the quality? Of course, no one’s expecting it to be top notch, but I saw a Soniq branded 19″ lcd tv going for $545 at JB-Hifi and boy was that BAD quality. I’m not familliar with the brand. It would be good if we could see it in person first before making a purchase.

    Hans,

You are right — looking at the price doesn’t really tell us about the quality. However it is very difficult to find reviews on these no-name brands.

At the same time, the point of this post is — competitors are willing to drop their price within hours, which in itself is quite interesting to watch.

How was the quality on the highlander LCD? Is it value for money or should I save up for a “known name” brand? Thanks,
    Jane

I bought the 26″ Highlander LCD from OO.com.au and it’s a better display than my 19″ PC monitor. It is bigger and bulkier than other models, but the quality is good and the multitude of connections is excellent for me.

Thinking of buying one of these LCD TV. Can anyone tell me if it has wall mounting?

The tv has a panel which can be removed and mounted to a wall. Guide says it needs to be done by a service person to ensure it is attached correcly (or words to that effect). I received mine the other day and so far am very happy. I can’t believe the quality of the picture

I purchased a 32in LCD Wintal from Radio Parts and have never looked back, great features and picture.
I’ve been told that it as an LG panel.

Now I’m looking for a smaller unit about 20 in.

    Great buy. John

I have owned the 26″ Highlander for some months now.
VERY impressed with the picture quality (it looked better than the Sony & Panasonic screens in the shop)

The only downside I have found is with the speakers, They sound a bit small and tinny. This is no problem for me as I use external speakers anyway.

I have mine mounted on the wall. No, you don’t need a tradesperson to do it. Just screw the bracket to the wall then the LCD just clips in. Too easy!!

I have had this model for about two years now. Its served its time, however, its just broke on me. It’s not receiving any power…

Its speakers are pretty useless and have a very limited range until they start distorting.

Apart from not working anymore, and speakers just being gay, it had great picture quality and a good number of connections (HD, Digital, VGA…)

I’m now going to pull it apart to see if I can fix it.

Well after finally receiving my 50cm (20″) LCD TV with Built-in DVD Player it did not work. I am technically sound, but whenever I turned the tv on showcasing the green light the tv would turn on for 5 seconds and then go to a black screen where I could not do a thing. Gave me a sync message with a blue background. This happened on every mode i.e tv/av/dvd. This has caused me much stress as I now have to return the dodgy product. I suggest you avoid this company
