Cheap Memory, as its name has suggested, is an Australian shop that sells cheap memory (surprise!), which includes RAM sticks in your computer, memory cards and solid state USB keys. They have a 10% off special this week — basically you get to say No to Johnny’s GST (in fact they do list ex-GST price next to their regular prices). Use the following coupon/discount code when you check out:
DEC1017
They also have a separate Christmas special:
- Free 256Mb USB key when you spend $110 or more.
- Free 512Mb USB key when you spend $165 or more.
- Free 1024Mb USB key when you spend $220 or more.
With the following discount/coupon code:
Xmasfreeusb
Do note that the coupon code is case-sensitive.

Coupon,
Website
WebbyPlanet is a relative new comer in discount coupon code listing sites. Launched by German company AZ73 LLC, its aim is to have an easy to use interface to allow users quickly find coupons offered by their favourite shops. Currently boasting 5,000 business affiliating with them, shoppers can easily find what they need through its simple search interface.
However, is it the best coupon listing site out there? Not by a long way, and they have a huge catch up to do.

Yet another Toys R Us crazy Christmas one day sale. Tedelex 8″ Portable Tablet DVD Player is on sale tomorrow, Tuesday 12 December, for $111.99, reduced from $279.99
Great for holidays and long car trips! LCD screen, compatible with CD/DVD/CD-R/CD-RW/OSD. Parental lock, built in speakers, headphone jack and more.
It’s even cheaper than most 7″ portable DVD player. Tedelex is a South Africa brand. I cannot find the spec on their website, however it looks like a tablet, instead of the traditional foldable design. I can imagine that it would be very useful for long trip during Christmas — to keep the kids in the backseat quiet, of course :)

Last week they had a $10 off deal, and this week TWOdollars.com.au is now doing a 10% off everything Christmas sale, if you place your order before Friday 15 December 2006.

You need to quote the following coupon code:
214-43153246
Also for orders placed after 15 December, you probably won’t expect shipment until early January, as business everywhere goes into hibernation over the Christmas period.

Daily Deals
DailyDeals, the company that’s behind the one-day-deal website Catch of the Day, is certainly challenging OO.com.au’s free delivery today — it is also running its own site-wide free delivery, until 11:59pm Saturday night, 9 December 2006.

And you don’t need to purchase by PayPal.
DailyDeals is a new shopping website based in Melbourne, and it is similar to a few other shops which I have featured here previously (cheap items, bulk buys, etc). I have not yet made a purchase from them, but with this promotion I might give them a try.

Got my Deals Direct newsletter this morning. Saw an interesting banner ads at the top of the page, clicked on it, and it brought me to The Trove which has just been launched! What is it?
The Trove is a great place to sell items for free, because we’ve got the muscle of DealsDirect.com.au behind us. Through DealsDirect’s website and newsletter, we’ll be advertising to hundreds of thousands of customers looking for hot deals!
Basically it’s a free classifieds site. It does not cost you anything to put ads on their site so potential sellers can search through and buy directly from you. Well, it’s nothing new, and Australia already has heaps of other free classified sites (oh, and many more). Sometimes I do wonder how business like TradingPost is going to survive in the next 2-3 years when there are so many free alternatives out there.
What is distinctive about “The Trove” is, (1) free tagging (2) traffic drove from Deals Direct. Tagging (or folksonomy) is usually useful when you have a large amount of samples, and collaborative effort makes much better categorising. It’s everywhere now, but I think people generally need a bit of training with it.
Traffic coming from Deals Direct is certainly a very useful thing if you are thinking of selling. People visit Deals Direct in their “buying mood”, so the chances that they will be willing to spend are high. Also DD is probably one of the bigger shopping site in Australia at the moment, which will probably bring quite a few eyeballs over your items.
Well. Good luck to guys at Deals Direct as it seems to be a tough battle out there. However, since they are all free, I don’t see a reason why you can’t post your vintage item on them all.

Who doesn’t want a Nintendo Wii? It’s launching today in Australia at mid-night (in 30 minutes) — no official one, but retailers will run their own. Most shops will sell you one for $399, but you can get one for $388 from Kmart, from their latest catalogue. Sale starts on 7 December 2006.
I’ve checked DoorOne.com.au, and it seems to be the cheapest. It comes with the console + one Wii remote.
Apparently Big W is also doing the same, with new Wii selling for $388. It’s a fun little console focusing on the game playability. Moreover, it will be a lot cheaper than the year-old Xbox 360 and the up-coming PlayStation 3.
Reported on OzBargain.
Now, back to Kmart’s latest catalogue, DJS also reported a $99 value Maglite value pack is now selling for $39.95. Great deal — it will probably be the only torch light you’ll ever need.

Competition,
OzBargain
Here’s my “incentive” to get more of you to share deals, vouchers and bargain tips — First Ever OzBargain Competition!!
These are the prizes that I am giving away:
- 1x AUD$50 voucher
- 5x AUD$20 voucher
I have not really got those vouchers yet — so the winner can decide on what he/she wants to get. Currently it is either Deals Direct or OO.com.au gift certificates, or the amount PayPal’ed into your account.
If you have sent me a voucher/deal last week over contact form or email, you are already in the draw! Otherwise, you need to (1) sign up an OzBargain account (2) post one deal to enter into the draw. Entry closes on Friday 22 December 2006, and the winners will be drawn on Saturday 23 December 2006 using my home made random number generator :)
I am also hoping to run this kind of competition regularly in the future (depending on my funding, of course). Please use the OzBargain forum to discuss.

Banking
This evening me and my wife were browsing through some of those online saving accounts (currently with INGDirect at 6% and ANZ offers us 6.30%), and spotted this incredible offer from BankWest. Kids’ Bonus Saver, which is like their online TeleNet Saver accounts except for the junior (must be under 15), and it offers 10% interest, if you can deposit $25-$250 regularly without making withdrawal.
As they have claimed — at 10% it’s Australia’s highest children saver account. Quite a few conditions though.
- Under 15. I guess I don’t qualify this one.
- $25-$250 deposit a month. No more, no less.
- Linked with Children’s Saving Account, required.
It has no account keeping fee, and provide fast access to funds for the parents or guardians. It has those limits to ensure it is used for saving for the children (instead of someone else’s high yield saving account). We are thinking of opening one for our daughter first thing next year. Good to start saving earlier.
Do note about the tax implication though. Minors have relatively low tax free bracket at $416 in Australia, and you’ll have to pay 66 cent in a dollar earned up to $1,445 after that. Very hefty I’ll say (to prevent abuse of course). So start saving when they are young, but don’t put all your money into their saving account, unless you love ATO so much.

Thanks to Peter G who forwarded me this $5 off Spotlight voucher (PDF download, 216k).
There are a few conditions:
- Only applies to Spotlight VIP Club members.
- Only applies to purchase $25 or more.
- Only one voucher per customer.
- Valid between 30 November and 10 December
This applies to all items (including all sale items) except custom made furnishing, gift vouchers, etc. You even get a chance to partake in $20,000 cash draw.
Not sure what does it mean to be a Spotlight VIP Club member, so I asked my wife and she said “we already have VIP membership”. Oh well, she shopped there, and I don’t. Apparently she is going there later this week so this $5 voucher is a blessing. Thanks Peter!
