81cm LCD TV from Aldi Everyone is undercutting price these days as Christmas approaches. The low-res LCD TV is also dropping price like crazy. Just a while ago $900 gets you a 26″ / 66cm, but now you can get a Tevion 81cm LCD TV from Aldi for the same price! Thanks to Dan and Ian for posting this deal on the forum.

These are the specs:

  • 16:9 WXGA display
  • HDTV ready at 1080i/720p
  • Resolution 1366 x 768
  • Contrast ratio 1000:1
  • Brightness 550cd/m2
  • 8ms response time
  • Twin TV tuner
  • HDMI input
  • Picture in picture
  • 176 viewing angle
  • Teletext function
  • Child lock and sleep timer
  • 2 x 10W output speakers
  • Connections: HDMI input, PC input, Component in, 2 x Scart, Coaxial antenna input, PC audio in, 1 x AV in (side), 1 x S-Video in (side) and headphone socket (side)
  • Includes Scart/AV adapter, remote control and 2 x AA batteries

Tevion seems to be Aldi specific brand that I can’t find any other references on the web. However I guess those low-res 1366×768 panels are generic enough and they should be very similar to other budget 81cm LCD TVs out there. Sale starts next Thursday 16 November 2006

Medion GPS Navigator from Aldi Update: Medion is also a brand that is pretty much exclusive to Aldi here in Australia. I’ve just noticed another great gadget on Aldi — the Medion GPS Navigator, equipped with Australian maps, for $399.

  • Latest 2006 map data, covers 99% of the area, with 2D and 3D view
  • Windows CE powered with Samsung 300MHz processor
  • 3.5″ TFT touch screen and stylus
  • 512MB SD card (with pre-loaded maps)
  • Voice directions with external volume control
  • Li-Ion rechargeable battery
  • Integrated MP3 player
  • Includes adjustable mounting arm with suction cup base, 12V in-car charger, 240V charger, protective carry case, earphones and spare stylus
  • Easy to use GoPal Software
  • Mounting kit included

That is cheap if you’ve been looking around similar offering before. However you don’t get as much review comparing to popular brands like Tom Tom.

I’d love to know if this is going to be a good deal – obviously a great price for an 81cm LCD TV – but are Aldi-Tevion customers happy ones?

I bought the Tevion 81cm LCD from Aldi two months ago. I have bought Tevion TVs and DVD players in the past so was quite confident I would be happy with the the 81cm LCD. Well I have to say I am more than happy. For the price I am sure you couldn’t do better. The sound and picture quality are great. I would recommend this to anybody. It does even more than I was expecting too, such as Telextext and Picture in Picture. If you’re wanting an 81cm LCD it’s worth waiting for it, the next time it comes to Aldi.
