Best Online Deals at A Current Affair

A Current Affair Thanks to rhys for notifying me about this evening’s A Current Affair, where some of the best online deal websites are featured. Especially Catch of the Day and Deals Direct. Note that Deals Direct has already been on ACA before, but the growth of CotD over the last 2 years is really remarkable. Looks like they have been slightly above Zazz over the last 6 months according to Alexa traffic ranking. Well done guys!

Under the category Best site for freebies and vouchers listed a site that I had a quick review back in AprilBargain Sniper. Now, why is this site the best for freebies and vouchers is beyond me. Or maybe those in ACA/NineMSN can enlighten me about who can get to be featured — because I don’t mind the traffic it brings!

At around 7pm AEST my server, which usually pushes out traffic at around 300kbps at that time of the day, gets a traffic spike at as much as 2Mbps! It turns out that Bargain Sniper’s hosting company, Jumba, suspended their hosting account (due to traffic spike I presume). As my review page came out as #2 on Google’s search result page on “bargain snipper”, everyone came to this blog instead! Over the 2 hour span I am getting around 4,000-5,000 page views at this blog, which is around 20 times what it would normally get.

So here is my congratulation to the Bargain Sniper guys for making onto the national television. It would be interesting to see what do they have in store when the door re-opens tomorrow.

Everyone knows that OzBargain is the best Australian online bargain community. ACA never did enough research, they jump to conclusion and pass judgement too quickly, as usual.

Yes… It killed it in 30 seconds flat. Had to get a dedicated server, so 2 days down.
The site is only up for a couple of month, we just put it up for beta… but it brought some attention, so they came over and interviewed me. But they cut the interview, did not even show the new tie I bought for the occasion :)
They interviewed me, told me it is going to air next day. Had no time to move hosting, oh well, got slaughtered :)

Hey, Scott, we should get together and have a chat, you now have my email address.

    Cheers

There’s quite a good number of bargain websites surfacing in Oz now & about time too :)

Did you say Bargain Sniper made it onto ACA as the best website?

    Hey Scott

In terms of publicity, the saying “good things come to those who wait” doesn’t apply here. Some, like Hector, get a free ride from an ACA Google Search but your site would make a perfect radio spot for example. You just have to chase it.

The media is in most cases lazy or already has enough people bringing news to them that they don’t need to go out and look for it. Why not be one of the people bringing it? Radio runs for hours on hours a day, that’s a lot of time to fill.
