15% Off at Deals Direct and Free Delivery at OO.com.au

PayPal AU has just released their latest merchant offer website. Actually the format is still the same — 9 merchants in random rotation with special offers if you pay in PayPal. Just that the domain name is sort-of new. Moreover, there are new PayPal discount offers!

Let me just pick two which I think are very sweet deals.

15% Off Discount from Deals Direct

Deals Direct has a massive 15% off discount if you purchase with PayPal offer until 30th of July. That is probably the biggest discount I have ever seen from Deals Direct. This Airis T620 PDA with Wifi + Bluetooth + GPS would be $322.15 + $9.95 delivery when you pay by PayPal. That is very cheap for a Mitac Mio P550 clone.

Free Delivery from OO.com.au

Free delivery from OO.com.au OO.com.au is again offering free delivery when you purchase with PayPal. Last time they had it we bought a small upright freezer delivered free — saved us $26.75. Free delivery is great when you buy heavy items, or small/cheap items when the delivery charge is a big proportion of the overall cost.

OO.com.au’s PayPal offer expires 6th of August.

Hi scotty whats your take on this.
I just read an article in steve pavilinas blog about about buying cheap stuff and trying to save that bit off money costs more in long run. For example a lot of stuff at dealsdirect is no name brand. I personally would rather spend that extra bit of money to get a better brand which has better quality and lasts longer. Also would give you more statisfaction e.g clothes which look and feel better or electronics with better sound or visual experience or furntiure which looks good for many years and all this things last longer from my experience. I have old sony TV which has lasted for 12 years and works fine and most cheap stuff i bought in the past has lasted only 2 years and maybe only 20% cheaper than brand stuff.

    Hey Marko,

I believe it’s always better to have branded stuff for the quality and durability. Although non branded stuff usually comes at cheaper price but doesn’t mean that it is always cheaper than the branded stuff in certain times.

I’ve bought a few stuff in the last few months, branded printer, clothing, watches, etc, all for a relatively cheap price. You just have to know when and where to buy it (eg. SALE times). That’s why Ozbargain and other bargain website exist to inform us of all the clearance SALE happening around us.

Cheap Non branded stuff however, is easier to spot, and still worthwhile to buy. It depends on what the use for. If I was to buy a 512 MB MP3 player, I’d buy the non branded stuff, it’s because of the price drop in few years time even with the branded stuff. I hope you understand what I’m saying. :)

Anyhow, Scotty or other users might have different opinions though.

    marko,

    I think it depends.

    1. Even many branded goods are manufactured in the same factory as no-brand goods, as the price differences is really the design + marketing + the brand premium. I am not saying that *ALL* branded goods are no better than no-branded, but I actually do not see much difference in many electronics goods. The quality of branded goods is just not as good as they used to be :(

    2. There are however many reason to buy branded products, especially when you need to make warranty claims or need to have your goods serviced. Of course many are also of better quality, but you don’t pay 20% more for these. If you do, then they are likely to be the discounted items where retailers are trying to get rid of the stock.

    3. Deals Direct sells bad quality made-in-China crap, as well as branded goods. 15% off discount here is across the entire product line. I have bought from Deals Direct many times, and have been bitten once — I now know what I won’t buy again from them now.

SO your saying most non branded electronics these days are similar quality to the branded stuff. Yea i would never buy a branded mp3 or mp4 player, I guess you have to use judgement in the product.

Almost everything now are made in China even the branded one, it’s really hard to spot what’s not :)

I still prefer quality on branded electronics though, but again, it depends on what’s the product itself.

Well. For electronics you’ll find many are made in the same factory, branded or non-branded. The branded one might still have better quality control though. Take MP3/MP4 players for example, iPod is made by Taiwanese company in Chinese factory. I have also previously bought a non-branded Korean MP3 players that are *exactly the same* as another MP3 player from a well-known Korean brand.

I agree with John that it really depends on the product. I buy branded goods if they are marginally better than non-branded ones that makes it cost-effective in the long run. However with globalisation and big corps cutting cost, I am finding even the branded electronics are not having “much better” quality. For example, I seriously doubt that the Sony TV you buy today will last another 12 years.
