If you're looking to save fuel on your car, changing your driving habits would go a long way to help you stretch you dollar.

I'm posting these driving habits on my blog. Check it out at http://www.fuelsaver-solo.blogspot.com/

Neil,

That's why I said "Probably because I don’t have the size" -- don't have the size to really appreciate the cabin size of those Australia-made V6 :)

I think petrol needs to rise significantly higher to provide a real incentive for people to buy hybrid or diesel cars.

>And I still don’t understand why Aussies love their 1,600+kg thirsty V8’s,
>when a much more economical 4 cylinder can also take them from A to B.

Don't forget, there are a few 1.8m+ tall people around, with teenage kids who are not far off that height. We just don't fit into dinky little 4 cylinders!
There are also some of us who need to carry and tow significant amounts of luggage and equipment around... so my 1600Kg V6 Commodore is pretty much essential. ;-)

Other economies come in here too. Wheels magazine pointed out this month that the soon-to-arrive Golf diesel may be a nice car, but the avarage driver won't see the economy of the car pay off for many years - mainly because diesel fuel is dearer in Oz than ULP.
And it's estimated that it takes over 11 years of driving a hybrid to break even on the extra cost.
Drive them for altruisitc reasons, but unless you are doing VERY high mileage, forget the economy side!
